During the lockdowns and stay-at-home orders of the Covid pandemic, social distancing redefined interpersonal space; intimate gestures and human contact became dangerous. Grand Gestures responds to this unusual scenario by creating AR monuments to physical acts of greeting: handshakes, fist bumps, and hugs. Motion capture data of these three actions become large scale sculptures that the user can place in outdoor spaces in the place of, and in remembrance of, their embodied counterparts.
