Living Memories: World COVID Tribute

2023-2024

Living Memories: World COVID Tribute is a hybrid physical and augmented reality memorial in which a large twenty foot quilted map of the world forms a central base, and in AR an interactive spiraling column of roses rises from it to approximately forty feet. The roses can be tapped and swiped to display biographical information, photos, and memorial messages of people who have passed away from COVID-19. Being both a global and site-specific project, the memorialized individuals are submitted from participants in the geographical region or country of each installation. The web-based AR effect is accessed via the project’s website, but can only be triggered by custom image markers on the physical quilt.

Led by Marcos Lutyens, Living Memories is also a collaboration with Rightfully Sewn, which produced the quilt, and the Global Scrubs Choir, which composed and performed choral works during its initial installations.
